Taali vs HeyMilo

HeyMilo screens high applicant volume across voice, video, SMS and forms, and publishes more about how it audits itself than almost anyone in this category. Taali does something narrower and harder to fake: it watches an engineer build something.

The short version

Choose HeyMilo if your problem is volume — thousands of applicants across many locations and languages, needing the same structured screen every time — and if independently audited, publicly documented AI fairness is a procurement requirement. On that last point they are ahead of us.

Choose Taali if your problem is depth on a small number of engineering hires: a candidate working in a real repository with an AI assistant, scored on how well they use it, with every CV claim traceable to a verified quote.

Every HeyMilo statement below is a present-tense fact taken from HeyMilo's own public pages, numbered to a source and stamped with the date we retrieved it. Where HeyMilo is stronger, we say so.

How the two compare

6 dimensions · HeyMilo claims retrieved 20 August 2026
DimensionTaaliHeyMilo
What the candidate actually does Works in a real repository in the browser — editor, terminal, running tests — with an AI assistant alongside, on a task drawn from the role. Completes a structured AI screen across voice, video, SMS and forms, plus scenario-based skill assessments. HeyMilo states it "Operates 24/7 in 20+ languages".[1]As of 20 Aug 2026
Is the candidate's use of AI measured? Yes, and it is the point. Prompts, edits and test runs are captured during the session, and AI fluency is scored as a first-class dimension alongside code craft. It is treated as a risk to detect rather than a skill to score: HeyMilo's cheat-detection product is described as catching "impersonation, AI assistance, and answer fraud before they reach your shortlist".[1]As of 20 Aug 2026
Evidence behind a claim on a candidate report Every requirement judgement carries quotes from the candidate's own CV. Each quote is checked verbatim against the source document before the report renders; quotes that cannot be located are dropped, and a requirement left with no surviving quote is marked unknown rather than scored. Genuinely strong, and different in kind: HeyMilo publishes per-question scores tied to recruiter-defined rubrics, AI-generated rationale, candidate quotes with timestamps, and full transcripts. The quotes are of what the candidate said in the interview; Taali's are of the source CV, verified and dropped when they cannot be located.[2]As of 20 Aug 2026
How a decision is produced and audited Aggregation is deterministic — the same inputs produce the same number. Every decision carries the policy basis it came from, an approval is refused when the score underneath it has gone stale, and advances, interviews, offers and hires stay with a person. Broadly the same position, stated publicly: the AI is "advisory", recruiters define rubrics and thresholds, and HeyMilo states it enforces "human-in-the-loop at every stage".[2]As of 20 Aug 2026
Data-flow and AI disclosure A public subprocessor page names every subprocessor with its function, location and transfer mechanism, updated before one is added or replaced. Candidate-facing surfaces are audited so a candidate is told they are working with an AI assistant wherever they are. No external algorithmic audit published yet. Ahead of us here. HeyMilo publishes monthly independent bias audits by a third-party assurance provider on a public dashboard, aligned to NYC Local Law 144 and EU AI Act frameworks, and states candidates are always told they are interacting with an AI, with consent logged and revocable and customer data never used to train models.[2]As of 20 Aug 2026
Published pricing No published price list yet — talk to us at hello@taali.ai. Every AI action is metered per candidate and runs against a monthly budget cap you set; the agent pauses when it reaches the cap. No price list published. The pricing URL redirects to a demo-booking form.[3]As of 20 Aug 2026

Where Taali is stronger

  • The assessment is the job. A real repository, a terminal, real tests, and an AI assistant in hand — not a proxy task, a recorded answer, or a phone screen.
  • AI fluency is a scored dimension. How a candidate delegates to, describes to, and checks an AI assistant is the thing being measured, rather than something to detect and prohibit.
  • Claims are traceable to the source document. A requirement judgement is only shown when a verbatim quote from the CV survives verification; the failure mode is an honest "unknown", not a confident number.
  • Decisions carry their basis. Each one records the policy it came from, and a stale score cannot be approved.
  • Small-team fit. Taali runs on one live role without a procurement cycle.

Where HeyMilo is stronger

An honest list

  • Independent, published bias auditing. Monthly third-party audits of the scoring system on a public dashboard, aligned to NYC Local Law 144 and EU AI Act frameworks. Taali has published no external algorithmic audit.[2]
  • Explicit candidate consent tooling. Consent logged with timestamps and immediately revocable, with the interaction ending on request. Taali discloses AI use but has no equivalent revocation mechanism.[2]
  • Language coverage. HeyMilo states it operates in 20+ languages. Taali's product surface is English today.[1]
  • Volume and channel breadth. Voice, video, SMS and forms in one pass, at a scale HeyMilo describes as 1.4 million candidates screened. Taali is not built for that shape of hiring.[1]
  • Published customer outcomes. Named customers with stated results. Taali's case studies are not published yet.[1]

Frequently asked questions

What is the main difference between Taali and HeyMilo?

HeyMilo is built for volume: it screens every applicant the same way across voice, video, SMS and forms, in more than twenty languages. Taali is built for depth on engineering roles: the candidate works in a real repository with an AI assistant, and how they use that assistant is itself scored. The philosophical difference shows up in how each treats candidate AI use — HeyMilo has a cheat-detection product that flags AI assistance, whereas Taali hands the candidate an AI assistant deliberately and measures the collaboration.

Is HeyMilo stronger than Taali on compliance?

On independent auditing, yes. HeyMilo commissions monthly third-party bias audits of its scoring and publishes the results on a public dashboard. Taali publishes a named subprocessor list and audits its own candidate-facing AI disclosure, but has commissioned no external algorithmic audit. If an independently audited fairness record is a procurement requirement for you today, that is a real point in their favour.

Can Taali run alongside my existing ATS?

Yes. Taali is designed to sit beside an applicant tracking system rather than replace it. Taali has one deep Workable integration, connected per organisation over OAuth, that reads candidates and writes decisions back. If you use a different ATS, Taali can still run on candidates who apply through a Taali job page.

How is candidate data handled?

Taali publishes a subprocessor page listing every subprocessor by name with its function, location and transfer mechanism, and updates it before a subprocessor is added or replaced. Candidate-facing surfaces are audited so a candidate is told they are working with an AI assistant at every point where they are.

Does a human still make the hiring decision?

Yes. Score aggregation is deterministic, so the same inputs produce the same number, and each decision carries the policy basis it was produced from. Advances, interviews, offers and hires stay with a person, and an approval is refused when the score it rests on has gone stale.
