Taali vs HireVue
HireVue is the enterprise assessment suite, built on decades of industrial-organisational psychology and used at enormous scale. Taali is a narrower instrument: it puts engineering candidates in a real repository with an AI assistant and scores what they do there.
The short version
Choose HireVue if you hire at volume across many job families and need a validated, audited assessment suite with published AI transparency documentation and a very long reference list. On those axes it is ahead of us, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Choose Taali if the question is whether a specific engineer can build the thing — with an AI assistant in hand, the way they will on the job — and if you need every claim on their report to be traceable to a quote from their own CV.
Every HireVue statement below is a present-tense fact taken from HireVue's own public pages, numbered to a source and stamped with the date we retrieved it. Where HireVue is stronger, we say so.
How the two compare
| Dimension | Taali | HireVue |
|---|---|---|
| What the candidate actually does | Works in a real repository in the browser — editor, terminal, running tests — with an AI assistant alongside, on a task drawn from the role. | Takes assessments from a suite that HireVue's public pages list as video interviewing, game-based assessments, technical assessments, language proficiency tests, virtual job tryouts and an AI interviewer.[2]As of 20 Aug 2026 |
| Is the candidate's use of AI measured? | Yes, and it is the point. Prompts, edits and test runs are captured during the session, and AI fluency is scored as a first-class dimension alongside code craft. | HireVue's public product pages describe AI scoring of candidates across skills, behaviours and competencies. We found no published description of scoring a candidate's own use of AI assistants during an assessment.[2]As of 20 Aug 2026 |
| Evidence behind a claim on a candidate report | Every requirement judgement carries quotes from the candidate's own CV. Each quote is checked verbatim against the source document before the report renders; quotes that cannot be located are dropped, and a requirement left with no surviving quote is marked unknown rather than scored. | HireVue commits to giving "clear understanding about what is being predicted, the confidence in the prediction and appropriate explanation of the data", and states recruiters see a list prioritised by assessment scores. The explanation is of the model, at the competency level.[3]As of 20 Aug 2026 |
| How a decision is produced and audited | Aggregation is deterministic — the same inputs produce the same number. Every decision carries the policy basis it came from, an approval is refused when the score underneath it has gone stale, and advances, interviews, offers and hires stay with a person. | Broadly the same position, stated publicly: assessments are "static and deterministic", not re-trained on the fly, and "Skilled recruiting specialists and hiring managers decide which candidate to hire".[2][3]As of 20 Aug 2026 |
| Data-flow and AI disclosure | A public subprocessor page names every subprocessor with its function, location and transfer mechanism, updated before one is added or replaced. Candidate-facing surfaces are audited so a candidate is told they are working with an AI assistant wherever they are. No external algorithmic audit published yet. | Publishes an annually updated AI Explainability Statement and states that its algorithms are rigorously audited for adverse impact on protected groups. This is more than most vendors in the category publish, including us.[4][3]As of 20 Aug 2026 |
| Published pricing | No published price list yet — talk to us at hello@taali.ai. Every AI action is metered per candidate and runs against a monthly budget cap you set; the agent pauses when it reaches the cap. | No numeric prices published. The pricing page names an Essential and a Premium package and directs visitors to request a demo.[1]As of 20 Aug 2026 |
What a decision looks like in Taali. Each card carries the score it rests on and the reason it was produced — the recruiter approves or overrides.
Where Taali is stronger
- The assessment is the job. A real repository, a terminal, real tests, and an AI assistant in hand — not a proxy task, a recorded answer, or a phone screen.
- AI fluency is a scored dimension. How a candidate delegates to, describes to, and checks an AI assistant is the thing being measured, rather than something to detect and prohibit.
- Claims are traceable to the source document. A requirement judgement is only shown when a verbatim quote from the CV survives verification; the failure mode is an honest "unknown", not a confident number.
- Decisions carry their basis. Each one records the policy it came from, and a stale score cannot be approved.
- Small-team fit. Taali runs on one live role without a procurement cycle.
Where HireVue is stronger
An honest list
- Scientific heritage. HireVue's assessments are built on industrial-organisational psychology and validated selection practice, referencing the EEOC Uniform Guidelines, SIOP and APA standards. Taali has no comparable published validation programme.[3]
- Published AI transparency. An annually updated AI Explainability Statement and stated external auditing for adverse impact. Taali has published neither.[3][4]
- Scale and evidence base. HireVue describes learning from over 70 million interviews. Taali is a young product with a small evidence base.[2]
- Breadth of assessment types. Game-based assessments, language proficiency testing, virtual job tryouts and high-volume video interviewing across many job families. Taali covers engineering roles only.[2]
- Enterprise references. A long, public customer list. Taali's case studies are not published yet.[2]
Frequently asked questions
What is the main difference between Taali and HireVue?
HireVue is an enterprise assessment suite built on industrial-organisational psychology, spanning video interviews, game-based assessments, technical assessments and language proficiency tests. Taali is narrower: it evaluates engineering candidates by putting them in a real repository with an AI assistant, and scores how well they use it. The other difference is what a score is made of — on a Taali report, each requirement judgement carries quotes taken verbatim from the candidate's own CV, and a quote that cannot be located in that document is dropped rather than shown.
Is Taali a drop-in replacement for HireVue?
No. HireVue covers assessment types Taali does not offer — game-based assessments, language proficiency testing and high-volume video interviewing across many job families. Taali is built for engineering roles. Teams that hire broadly usually keep a suite like HireVue for volume hiring and use Taali where the question is whether someone can actually build the thing.
Can Taali run alongside my existing ATS?
Yes. Taali is designed to sit beside an applicant tracking system rather than replace it. Taali has one deep Workable integration, connected per organisation over OAuth, that reads candidates and writes decisions back. If you use a different ATS, Taali can still run on candidates who apply through a Taali job page.
How is candidate data handled?
Taali publishes a subprocessor page listing every subprocessor by name with its function, location and transfer mechanism, and updates it before a subprocessor is added or replaced. Candidate-facing surfaces are audited so a candidate is told they are working with an AI assistant at every point where they are.
Does a human still make the hiring decision?
Yes. Score aggregation is deterministic, so the same inputs produce the same number, and each decision carries the policy basis it was produced from. Advances, interviews, offers and hires stay with a person, and an approval is refused when the score it rests on has gone stale.
How much does each cost?
Neither publishes a price list. HireVue's pricing page names an Essential and a Premium package and directs visitors to request a demo, as of 20 August 2026. Taali's published pricing is not live yet; every AI action is metered per candidate and runs against a monthly budget cap you set. Email hello@taali.ai and we will quote a role.
